Travel Information

Lancaster is reachable from all major airports in the UK. Manchester International airport is the closest airport.

Lancaster University has information on getting to Lancaster.

Travel from/to Manchester International Airport

  • By rail:

    There are many direct trains, whilst others involve a change. Timetables for trains to and from Manchester International Airport are available at the National Rail website. The train journey takes about 1.5hours.

  • By taxi:

    EXECUTIVE CARS has agreed to a special rate for AOSD '04 participants.
    Cost: 90GBP (return trip), 50GBP (single trip)

    Booking Information:

    1. Email/telephone/fax Executive Cars providing them with your flight information, including arrival time, flight number and where you are flying in from.
    2. Credit card details should be faxed or provided by telephone. All passengers will be provided with a receipt.
    3. Executive cars will confirm your booking by email.

    Executive Cars Cancellation Policy:
    Any cancellations within 24 hours of booking will incur a 50% fare charge.

Lancaster University Campus is approximately 3 miles south of the center of the city of Lancaster. See Campus Map

Lancaster City Centre to Lancaster University

  • By Taxi:

    Taxis are usually available from outside the station.

  • By Bus:

    Buses run every 10mins (approx) during the day and every 20mins (approx) in the evening. Bus Number: 2, 2A, 3, 4 (Only 2A operates in the evening). A bus timetable will be provided in the conference pack. The fare is £1.00 (single) and £1.50 (return) – approx.

    Bus stop: Lancaster Bus Station or there is a bus stop a few minutes walk from the railway station by Lancaster market on Common Garden Street.
