The Chicago Water Tower, born in 1869, is constructed of Joliet limestone blocks and is one of the few structures that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Due to its endurance through time, the Chicago Water Tower was chosen by the American Water Works Association to be the first American Water Landmark in the nation in 1969, the year of its Centennial Anniversary.
